This was shockingly weird but I liked it somehow。。

the visuals in this book are so graphic, it's so interesting how Asano made Punpun a bird, and drew him so simply when the other visuals and story carry so much weight。I guess that's the point though: less focus on Punpun the character himself, and more focus on the story and the world as it's changing around him。Very, very interesting! the visuals in this book are so graphic, it's so interesting how Asano made Punpun a bird, and drew him so simply when the other visuals and story carry so much weight。I guess that's the point though: less focus on Punpun the character himself, and more focus on the story and the world as it's changing around him。Very, very interesting! 。。。more

a friend “tricked” me into reading this。 She loves Manga books and i just never had the interest to read them。 she said if i read one of her manga books, i could pick any book i wanted and give to her to read (i’m deciding between the after series or the selection series)。 this is the book she picked for me。 i was skeptical at first, but i ate it up in a day。 it is such a beautiful coming of age story with dark and twisted themes。 now, i am just as addicted as my friend is, trying to get my hand a friend “tricked” me into reading this。 She loves Manga books and i just never had the interest to read them。 she said if i read one of her manga books, i could pick any book i wanted and give to her to read (i’m deciding between the after series or the selection series)。 this is the book she picked for me。 i was skeptical at first, but i ate it up in a day。 it is such a beautiful coming of age story with dark and twisted themes。 now, i am just as addicted as my friend is, trying to get my hands on the second book。 。。。more

An amazing first volume。 I love the characters and the story。 I really appreciate how each one has their own lives and struggles, they aren’t simply there to fill the friend role and have no real character! Punpun’s character, though he is a child, isn’t made to be oblivious to his surrounding but rather he focuses on other things, deemed more interesting or important by a child。 It makes the story feel more realistic。 We are seeing Punpun’s point of view and not that of an adult author writing An amazing first volume。 I love the characters and the story。 I really appreciate how each one has their own lives and struggles, they aren’t simply there to fill the friend role and have no real character! It was okay, I think it just wasn't what I expected, I thought it would be funnier but its pretty somber at times。 It was okay, I think it just wasn't what I expected, I thought it would be funnier but its pretty somber at times。 。。。more

Adorably hilarious, endearing, emotional。 Beyond my expectations, greatly so。

Goodnight Punpun by all means looks like a comedy。 It is, sometimes; there are a few moments that are genuinely pretty funny。 This isn't a comedy。 This is a very real, melancholy look at adolescence。 The writing in this volume is phenomenal。 Nothing is ever too outwardly comedic, nor is it too serious, neither。 It simply just is。 And while the story focuses on Punpun's point of view, it is very clear to the reader what's actually going on, even if Punpun is too naïve to realize。 It is a very rea Goodnight Punpun by all means looks like a comedy。 It is, sometimes; there are a few moments that are genuinely pretty funny。 This isn't a comedy。 This is a very real, melancholy look at adolescence。 The writing in this volume is phenomenal。 Nothing is ever too outwardly comedic, nor is it too serious, neither。 It simply just is。 And while the story focuses on Punpun's point of view, it is very clear to the reader what's actually going on, even if Punpun is too naïve to realize。 It is a very real take on the coming of age story。 It isn't outwardly sad, but it can be depressing in a melancholy way。 Punpun struggles with anxiety and it tints his view in everything he does, and he's constantly faced with people and events that provoke his anxiety。 Not to mention all the other shit that comes with growing up: sex, career, familial issues, religion, the weight of the world, etc。 etc。The choice to have the Punyama family be depicted as birds is a choice I personally really enjoy。 It adds childlike innocence and naïveté, and makes scenes that depict some difficult content easier for the reader to digest。 Juxtaposed with the rest of the art, which is fantastically done— it has the vibe of some Ghibli style with more of the style attributes of the Gorillaz— it adds to the tone I believe Asano was trying to go for。 This vibed with me, hard。 Asano seemed to be going through some shit, and damn, I feel you, man。 。。。more

Rating based on my own preferences and not good the actual book is。I'm dropping this series。 It's a very well written book, wonderfully drawn and the scenes with surrealist art makes it more compelling。 But this isn't a series you read for enjoyment。 It's depressing, and it continues to pile on that。 You need to be in the correct headspace to get through this series。 Rating based on my own preferences and not good the actual book is。I'm dropping this series。 It's a very well written book, wonderfully drawn and the scenes with surrealist art makes it more compelling。 But this isn't a series you read for enjoyment。 It's depressing, and it continues to pile on that。 You need to be in the correct headspace to get through this series。 。。。more

So, after Solanin, Downfall and A Girl on the shore I think I need take another Inio Asano's work。 With the discount event on my local bookstore 😁 finally I take this book。 This one is quite weird I think compared to previous Asano's work I have read。 The main character and his family are illustrated as non human (though the actual condition they are all human)。 Also there are several panels that I can't understand what they are about, especially mo when the school principal ask the head teacher So, after Solanin, Downfall and A Girl on the shore I think I need take another Inio Asano's work。 With the discount event on my local bookstore 😁 finally I take this book。 This one is quite weird I think compared to previous Asano's work I have read。 The main character and his family are illustrated as non human (though the actual condition they are all human)。 Also there are several panels that I can't understand what they are about, especially mo when the school principal ask the head teacher if he wants to play hide and seek。 The conclusion of this volume is quite good and I think I need to dig deeper through the second volume to understand the story better。 。。。more

This book was。。。。。。strange to say the least。 Not what I was expecting at all。 I was recommended this series by a friend and I don't think I'll be able to finish it beyond this first book。 There's a fine line between acceptable weirdness and just flat out uncomfortable and this book made me feel uncomfortable。 The provided synopsis didn't really follow the story。 Maybe 20 pages were dedicated to the Novel Prize which was one of the 4 things we were told about Punpun。 It mostly focused on Punpun's This book was。。。。。。strange to say the least。 Not what I was expecting at all。 I was recommended this series by a friend and I don't think I'll be able to finish it beyond this first book。 There's a fine line between acceptable weirdness and just flat out uncomfortable and this book made me feel uncomfortable。 The provided synopsis didn't really follow the story。 Maybe 20 pages were dedicated to the Novel Prize which was one of the 4 things we were told about Punpun。 It mostly focused on Punpun's crush on Aiko & his conversations with god。 I saw all of the promising reviews and expected everything - sadly I was very disappointed。 。。。more
